Module 1 of 18Lesson 1 · Introduction to Git & GitHub
What is Git?
Git is a distributed version control system. It records changes as snapshots so you can experiment, collaborate and return to a known version.
Terminal / Git Bash
git --version Example
Run this command after installing Git. A version number confirms that the command line tool is available.
Important
Never run destructive commands on shared work without checking the diff and confirming the target branch.
Best practice
Keep commits focused, review staged changes and use a feature branch for work that is not ready for production.
